Its now 2025 I to am trying to instal this on a Win11 machine. I had it working on my old machine and it was great. Anyone ever resolve this or its a dead chicken of an app? so irritating when you have multiple excel open and it opens in the last one not the active one.

To avoid this issue, I start the program with a shortcut that executes this: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k "cd /d %LOCALAPPDATA%\slions.net\VirtualDesktop\assemblies & del /Q * & cd /d C:\Users\User\VirtualDesktopGridSwitcher_v4.0.2.4\ & start VirtualDesktopGridSwitcher.exe & exit" I also had a Win10 configuration that I migrated over to the new Win11 version. Mine is custom with a 4x2 grid and associated icons. I don't know if any of this might cause issues with the "assemblies" files though.

@Martin I just wanted to chime in to say I also had to delete the contents of %LOCALAPPDATA%\slions.net\VirtualDesktop\assemblies in order for the application to run. Note that I had a previous installation of VirtualDesktopGridSwitcher running on Windows 10 before updating to Windows 11. It's also worth mentioning that these files had to be completely deleted, and not moved to some tmp\ directory like I had originally tried (perhaps it does a recursive file search? I haven't looked at the source)....

Linux ain't perfect, but at least it respects its users! Windows updates and sleeping issues are frankly a shame. At least with VirtualDesktopGridSwitcher I can now organize my stuff and work efficiently! I don't know TotalSpace, but I was personally very fond of how the unity DE used to handle workspaces. Nowadays Gnome can do something similar but you need plugins to be actually nice. Anyways, thanks for the support and fixes. It might be worth mentionning the files to delete in case of issues...

It's weird, I've never had to delete %LOCALAPPDATA%\slions.net\VirtualDesktop\assemblies to stop the app from crashing. Most likely, this is an individual case. But I agree, it's worth pointing out, in case someone else runs into the same issue. Linux is not perfect either :) So far, the best implementation of virtual desktops is on MacOS through a third-party app TotalSpaces (paid). I'm not sure if it is still functional.

The Windows version you updated to might be different from mine. Could you please let me know which version you are using? The crash might be caused by changes in another VirtualDesktop API that Microsoft has discontinued. How exactly it stopped working? Does it crash, fail to switch desktops, display an error, etc.? I upgraded to Windows 11 version 26100.2605 and didn't notice any issues. Make sure the Timer Pulling Interval option is present in the settings, as shown in the screenshot. If the option is missing, it's likely that you are running a different version of the application.

It seems like too much has changed for me to fix it without a computer on this version. A long shot but close it down, delete any 26100.863 files in %LOCALAPPDATA%\slions.net\VirtualDesktop\assemblies and restart.

I think Microsoft may have fixed it - I no longer seem to have this issue after applying update 2024-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5039212)

Hi Robert, Yes I have noticed it too. It seems to freeze explorer / toolbar for me and I have to manually restart it and then restart VDGS. Its annoying, as I suspect the fix will be to wait until a switch has occurred before initiating the next but that will make it less responsive - it used to nicely "combine" the switches I think. Will see if I can put some time into it in the next week or 2 - nice to know its not just me, thanks for reporting it. Simon
