Apparently neither Notepad++ or AHK makes convenient the idea of "returning to the previous spot" - which is an editing choice that is frequently needed. I am using /^.{6}\s[A-Z]\gm. I know that regular expression works to ensure there is a space in position 7 and then A through Z in position 8 (i.e., not a comment and starts in COBOL A column).
