Got to a REDO message that says output device is NOT A BLOCK DEVICE. Veracrypt creates a "dm' type device for its container. REDO does not accept it. I dropped out of REDO and used PARTCLONE successfully to backup and restore partitions. Any way to get REDO to use the "dm" device. I'm a novice LINUX user so I can't get any further. It would help tremendously to backup and encrypt in one pass with REDO. Tx for a great product that has served me well for years.

I am using Redo Rescue (RR) for the first time. I have a Dell XPS 9370 running Linux Mint 21.1 and I am backing up to a Synology DS923 NAS on my network. I had the same problem and I tried many things including moving HDD to another computer - results were the same. Even different versions (3.0.2 and 4.0) had the same error (no matter what software was used to create bootable flash). My solution: Make bootable flash drive with Ubuntu linux, boot to it, run Disk program, select each partition on each drive and perform Repair partition on it. Reboot again into Redo and now it should work without error.

My issue was I used rufus to create a bootable usb for redo rescue. I initially used etcher which was recommended on their site but was too lazy to redownload it so I figured maybe rufus can be a good alternative. Using etcher fixed the issue for me, and it was what I used a lot previously for redo rescue until I got lazy.

I'm planning to clone my old Intel PC's image and restore it onto my newer AMD PC. I'm concerned that I might run into issues like being unable to boot due to driver incompatibilities. Debian is 100% open source, based on a current linux kernel. Newer kernels have great compatibility with new computers while losing compatibility with older ones, so the linux kernel does not grow too much in size. I may have solved this myself. Suspecting that the problem is due to the need for a 32-bit version of Redo, I downloaded and tried the Nov 21, 2012 Redo Backup version 1.0.4 (which is probably what I used for the 2017 backup) and this seems to be working (restore is in process now). Later: Got "1 write error." Will try again. Still later: Retried with Redo in Safe Mode, and restoration of Win XP was successful.

You are exactly correct. We missed this the first time around, but upon testing with two SATA drives, the behavior you describe is present. The only way to correct it is to close and re-open the Redo application. We've opened an issue to get this fixed in the next release. Thanks again for your input!

Hi Steve, Would you be able to open an issue on Github? We haven't seen this come up before and it seems to be a pretty big deal. To be clear, are you saying that: 1) If you had not clicked "Back" then it would have functioned normally, but 2) when you click "Back" and change drives, the change does not take effect (and you are stuck with the original selection)? Hi Donald, Whether you write the image to a DVD or a USB stick, you will likely need to press a key immediately after powering on to tell it which device to boot from. Example keys are ESC, F12, F11, F10, F8, and DEL. Often these must be pressed (not held) rapidly to get it to take effect when powering on. Hello, and thank you for the informative post. The issue you've run into may not necessarily be related to the fimware message that appears here. It is more likely that the lack of hardware support for more recent GPUs in Debian 10 is causing the trouble. Please try the new 4.0.0 release when it is available for download and see if you still experience this same issue.

Hi Keanu, It is likely based on your description that Partclone simply images the entire 2TB drive using dd-mode imaging. As for why the drive is thought to be smaller, this part is unclear. Were you able to determine a cause for this?

Hi Alf, Yes, as long as all of the files are kept together and not altered, it should not matter what drive or filesystem the backup image is stored on!

Hello Krzysztof, Windows 10, when shut down normally, may leave the NTFS partition in a "dirty" state that may not permit data to be read or restored as expected -- see https://github.com/redorescue/redorescue/issues/74 to see if this might be the issue.

Version 4.0.0: Based on Debian 11! This release upgrades the base OS from Debian 10 to Debian 11 (Bullseye). Other than updating the base operating system and its packages, the underlying application remains identical to 3.0.2 to simplify troubleshooting. The problem seems to be that you cannot change the disk! After boot... 1. Select sda as the disk to backup 2. Click Back 3. Select sdb as the disk to backup 4. redorescue-3.0.2.iso I have tried this on two real systems and one VirtualBox system by booting from USB. The first Backup screen displays all drives and I select the 2nd drive (sdb) and press Next The next screen then asks me to select the partitions on sda !!! No matter what drive I choose in the first screen, the next partition screen always displays sda partitions. I can't believe I am the first person to find this?

I'm trying use Redo on old machines with Win10, like Dell Vostro 230 and 260, but doesn't run.I tested it with usb created on Rufus and a DVD. with the usb drive, there is no error message, only black screen. with DVD Message :No boot device avaliable. I love Redo Rescue. I'm doing something a bit different and I ran into a major roadblock. I have a 2TB Linux install, which I created an image of. Then I setup a hardware Dell PERC-5 card connected to 2x 2TB HDDs. The array was initialized and exists just fine. When I tried to restore the image to the 2TB HDD RAID-1 array, RedoRescue tells me that the source image is 0.5TB larger than the 2TB destination (RAID array).
