The COMMENT_REGEX needs double-square-brackets for the :space: character class for that version of 'grep'. The shebang at the top of ipdetect.sh needs to be "/bin/bash" to avoid errors. The main bash-isms I found were use of == in the left-square-bracket operator and the use of PIPESTATUS.
