http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/GeoServer+2.2.3

This is the latest release of the stable 2.2 series and contains some small new features and interesting fixes:
* [http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-3885] - Update Freemarker templates through REST API
* [http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-5325] - Add title and abstract to LayerGroupInfo
* [http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-5462] - The rendering thread can block forever under request cancellation
* [http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-5479] - Error in Documentation: </PropertyName> tag used instead of </Literal>
* [http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-5483] - json output in WPS extension does not work due to missing library
* [http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-5485] - Border artifacts when reprojecting single banded (scientific) raster data

Also, looking at the corresponding GeoTools release changelog we have the following extra goodies in:
* better support for chaining rendering transformations
* fixes to time/date handling in CQL
* Oracle specific SDO_NN function to find the N nearest objects to a given location

We also welcome our newest committer, Davide Savazzi, and thank him for the work on Freemarker template through the REST API and the title and abstract support in layer groups, as well as the SDO_NN work back in GeoTools.

Download GeoServer 2.2.3, try it out, and provide feedback on the GeoServer mailing list:
http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/Mailing+Lists

Thanks again for using GeoServer!

Looking for GeoServer news? The downloads are still hosted here at SourceForge, of course, but we're consolidating our news on the GeoServer blog, rather than having it in more than one place. The main GeoServer homepage remains at http://geoserver.org .
ArcGrid module is not working well on this release because the new one, all refactored and based and ImagioIO interfaces, is available on Geotools since version 2.4.x.

The next release will have ArcGrids and GRIBs back plus a lot of other plugins :)

Thanks,
We've been in the process of porting to a wiki for awhile, and are close to done. The location of the actual wiki is a bit weird, so we just decided to use http://geoserver.org to point you in the right direction. Soon we'll get that domain itself up to snuff. But please check out the new page, and please give us feedback, or things are wrong, just fix it up yourself!

GeoServer 1.0.0 released

GeoServer is a full transactional Java (J2EE) implementation of the OpenGIS Consortium's Web Feature Server specification. Release 1.0.0 has been completely tested against the official OGC WFS test engine and supports Postgis, Oracle and Shapefile formats. Please visit http://geoserver.sf.net

GeoServer is built as a thin servlet layer on top of the latest beta release of GeoTools (http://geotools.org), another excellent sourceforge project. The server allows users to share geographic information using GML. GeoServer was originally written on top of Postgis, a spatial extension to PostgreSQL, and now also supports Shapefile and Oracle Spatial formats, with more coming every day. It is fully transactional, meaning users can modify their backend data using update and locking operations on the web. Feature filtering is also fully supported, in the backend data stores for speed where possible.

The 1.0.0 release is an important milestone. The server has been fully tested as the reference implementation of the OGC's Web Feature Service Specification. Our association with the GeoTools team led to a number of improvements, including the additional data formats, connection pooling, and the internal feature model. And our users have proven invaluable for testing beta versions and providing bug reports, fixes, and feedback.

Future improvements will include an integrated Web Map Service (WMS), a web administration interface, strong transactional locking, and greater speed and efficiency. The release can be downloaded at:

Notes

A few notes regarding the project...

1. I've been in contact with the FreeFS and MapBuilder projects and after an e-mail dialogue with them, I'm working on synchronizing the GDTP syntax to be more in line with OpenGIS's WFS. It is not close to complete by any means, but I'll keep updates posted.

2. I've uploaded some Five Blues Lake data in the gdtp2svg and Project Maps sections. They are far from polished, but do represent some progress.

3. MycoMap is under construction and proceeding well.

4. I hope to provide some GML base maps of the United States, including roads and borders as soon as I can figure out how to extract the data points from the transportation data I have on CD-ROM (Courtesy of US Gov't.). I'll post updates here...

Geoserver v.0.85 Release

The Geoserver project is focused on creating an open client-server specification standard for geographical and mapping applications.

So, I've finally gotten around to releasing the Geoserver reference server code that I've been working on. It is a .tar.gz with the Java source in the src/ directory and the installation documents in the docs/ directory. I've also released a "GDTP User's Guide" at the same time in order to illustrate how queries to the server are made and what types of results to expect.

I was intending to release a "Geoserver User's Guide" also, but have since burned out writing documentation. It's still under construction, and I'll release it once I get it complete.

I should probably that this software is still BETA software, so no warranties are implied and its not even guaranteed that it will run on your machine. However, if there are problems or bugs, please log them in the bug tracker that SourceForge has so generously provided so that I can work to release better and better projects.

Any questions and/or flames should be sent to br284@users.sourceforge.net.

Forums Open

At the request of an anonymous user, I have opened up the forums for use.
