RainforestCluster is an Amazon EC2 python program that manages and load-balances dynamic clusters to allow for maximum workflow flexibility and speed at minimal cost. It enables one to quickly and cheaply create dynamic compute clusters in the cloud, which can then run computational pipelines generically. It is also able to optimize the use of spot instances - idle computers in Amazon's cloud that are available at drastically reduced cost (5x-10x cheaper) - but can be terminated at any moment if capacity drops or the bid price rises. It also provides pre-installed features such as GlusterFS distributed filesystems, ThunderstormDistributor queuing system, RAID 0 /scratch, password-less ssh, and automatic cluster management, for ease of use and maximum processing speed for computational tools. Originally it was developed as a different version for the Wall Lab at Harvard CBMI.

RedMQ is a Redis-based messaging system that is specifically designed to support flexible messaging schemes, exposing an API that allows messages to be filtered by a number of message attributes. At its core is a Python TCP server built on Asynchronous Messaging Protocol and Twisted's AMP module. This means RedMQ can support clients in any language, though only two clients - PHP and Python - have been implemented to date. The API is designed with flexibility in mind, providing native support for conditional messaging and custom message routing as well as standard point-to-point and publish-subscribe messaging models.

TaskManager is an open source infrastructure software for distributing and managing calculation jobs in a Unix computer cluster environment. The TaskManager was designed to control the utilization of a set of hosts even if you are not the administrator of the system. The hosts are embedded in a Unix environment and the user's home directories are mounted on each host. The hosts may have different numbers of CPUs/cores and different kernels. Keep in mind that a user is able to log into each host and calculate on it. However, he should use the TaskManager to submit calculation jobs to the cluster to avoid an overload of the hosts. Jobs which are under the control of the TaskManager are executed on a host of the computer cluster with the rights of the respective user to ensure that the executing jobs have the permission to access the user's files.
